After departing from Oakhurst, I found myself in New York. The travel was longer than I expected, but I still made it in one piece. Once arriving, while I had gotten the New York vampires addresses, I decided to scout out the city first.
I hadn't anticipated meeting anyone, let alone one of the vampires I had come to New York to meet in the first place. I went into a smaller café in the heart of the city, when I spotted him. I wouldn't have thought much of him normally, people could be eccentric, but after meeting with Cleo and Pearl I knew that the man I was looking at was a vampire. The white hair and bright red eyes were too distinctive not to pay notice to.
I assumed it was Scott, as he was the only male vampire I knew of that was still alive, at least with actual evidence of his existence. He was sat at a small table in the corner, just out view of the large display window.
I debated with myself before approaching him, but in the end, my curiosity got the better of me and I ended up walking over to his table. He wasn't eating or drinking anything, the only thing accompanying him being a book I didn't recognize the title or author of.
He looked up at me as I came over, but didn't say anything. I will admit only to myself that being under his stare left me feeling disquieted.
I pressed on despite the uncomfortable sense that I was being looked down on. I introduced myself and explained my business, as well as mentioned my visit to Oakhurst and meeting Cleo and Pearl.
I wouldn't say he lowered his guard, but he at least looked more amused when I stated my reason for approaching him. He confirmed my suspicion by introducing himself as Scott Goldsmith, though he told me he doesn't often go by that name nowadays.
He was receptive to my questions, though I did catch him watching me with an odd look in his eye more than once. Though I was eager to learn more, I was careful to keep myself calm and cordial.
While Scott was mostly amused by me and my questions, the lingering unease I felt made me rein in my excitement.
That isn't to say I didn't get any answers. Scott told me about himself, and I learned that he was well over a thousand years old. He told me about how he was put to sleep and his reign over Oakhurst, though he wouldn't give me any good answers regarding his upbringing or childhood other than to confirm his noble status.
It was enlightening overall, though I do wish I asked more about the occurrences in Oakhurst itself. I don't know if Scott would have given me an answer, as the vampire seemed to enjoy talking about himself quite a bit.
While the interview was unplanned, I am happy with the answers I have received so far. It's clear to me that Oakhurst's history is just as fascinating as I hoped it would be.
